Prevention is always better than cure so it’s important for us to take a look at your teeth and gums at least twice a year. We can spot potential problems before they get a chance to get worse. Some issues, such as a cavity, can result in more costly treatment needed further down the line to treat properly if they are left. We can also spot if your brushing routine at home needs some improvement, and give plenty of guidance on how to protect your smile from future issues.
Why do I need to see a dentist?
Your dental check-up treatment journey

Examination
To begin your check-up, we ask you about your oral health routines at home and if you have any concerns. We thoroughly examine and assess your teeth, gums and mouth, looking for signs of decay, gum disease and bite issues. We also carry out an oral cancer check as standard.
Advice
We explain any findings from your examination with you, and give you the chance to ask any questions. To help you keep your teeth in great condition at home, we give you personalised advice on the best cleaning techniques and share tips on diet, alcohol and tobacco consumption.
Further treatment
If we find anything that requires treatment, we will create your treatment plan, including the best course of action and expected costs. We also advise when to book your next check-up.
Frequently asked questions
We generally recommend a dental check-up twice a year. However, your dentist will advise you on the ideal time to leave between appointments based on your individual oral health needs. If you experience any issues before your next check-up, please don't hesitate to call us to book an earlier visit.
No, a dental check-up typically doesn't hurt. During your visit, we use small, sterile instruments to carefully examine your teeth and gums for any signs of decay or infection. You might feel a brief moment of discomfort if we need to gently scrape a tooth or use suction, but this is usually very fleeting.
It's completely normal to feel anxious about dental appointments, and we understand! Please let us know if you're feeling nervous when you book your appointment or when you arrive. Our team is experienced in helping anxious patients feel more comfortable. We can take breaks, explain everything we're doing, and discuss strategies to make your visit as stress-free as possible.
Regular dental check-ups are essential for maintaining good oral health and catching potential problems early. Many dental issues, like cavities or gum disease, don't cause pain until they have become more advanced. By visiting us regularly, we can spot and address these concerns before they can get more serious and costly to treat, helping you keep your smile healthy for longer.
